🗻 G7 Agree to Pursue ‘responsible AI’ Amongst Recent Spread of ChatGPT Usage

On Sunday, 30th April, during their two-day meeting in Takasaki, Japan, the Group of Seven advance nations agreed to promote and pursue ‘responsible’ use of artificial intelligence. This news comes after the recent explosion of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, which have been spreading like wildfire.

With the rapid pace of AI development, it’s clear that international standards are needed to govern the technology in some form. Responsible use of AI has been a hot topic ever since the development of OpenAI’s ChatGPT back in November.

A joint declaration from the ministers of G7, “Given that generative AI technologies are increasingly prominent across countries and sectors, we recognise the need to take stock in the near term of the opportunities and challenges of these technologies and to continue promoting safety and trust”, as they wrapped up their talks in Takasaki, Japan.

Up to this point, countries have varied in their methods of balancing the utilization of advanced technology in regard to regulations. Japan, in comparison to the United States and European nations, has adopted a more cautious approach towards regulations.

It’s definitely going to be interesting to observe the near future advancements in AI and the diverse regulatory approaches adopted by different nations.
